Well, I’ve stopped wearing white socks…

Saturday, December 9, 2006, 12:18 am

Hello there, friend. If you’re like some of the other people in my life, you’re probably wondering 1. why I stopped blogging here and 2. what it’s like to be back home after eight months in PNG.

First, I never intended to stop posting to TTB, but the archives don’t lie. It’s been over a month since the last post, my goodbye to PNG.

The reasons for this are complicated, and in fact, you wouldn’t even be getting this post if it weren’t for a disaster in the kitchen that wound me up enough to keep me out of bed. (But no fear, John and Becky, I haven’t damaged anything permanently.)

I can’t wear white socks anymore. No I don’t know why. I didn’t wear them for eight months, and now they look very strange on my feet. So, I wear colored socks.

That’s what it’s like to be back.

Not very profound, I know. But somehow, it’s often the little things that get my attention — the strangest sort of things that I never would have imagined and that just sound silly when I try to share them.

I’m in Dallas now — Duncanville, actually — after visiting friends and family in California, Missouri, Ohio, and East Texas. I’m housesitting (thanks, John and Becky!) while I look for an apartment, for I’ll be working in Wycliffe’s Dallas office until April or May 2007. What happens then? Well, stay tuned.

But in the meantime, I’ll continue posting photos, stories, and memories from PNG as I sift through a wealth of material, and I’ll try to give you a glimpse of what it’s like to do missionary work from home.

I just hope I find a topic more relevant than socks.
