Developing a communications strategy
This week, UK-June and I have been drawing up plans for the next few months. We’re getting really excited as we talk through our ideas, but we’re also beginning to realize just how much work is ahead of us.
It’s not the work that scares me — I like big projects, as long as I have a plan. It’s the uncertainty that’s daunting, all of those questions to which we don’t have answers. Worse, it feels as if all of the questions go in a big circle: We can’t answer A until we answer B, but B depends on C, which depends largely on A.
I’m in over my head, but this morning Carle prayed that God would do what we cannot and in so doing bring glory to Himself. I needed that reminder.
Our work will proceed in four phases, or rather, we will produce four waves of publicity materials about Bible translation in PNG. We’ll actually be working on the phases simultaneously, and we spent some time today trying to figure out how that will work exactly.
Phase 1 is the production of press releases and other materials for media outlets around the world. We’ve already had some emails requesting information about our 50th anniversary celebration, which is April 21. More on that later.
Phases 2-4 are increasingly ambitious publications, all aimed at reaching Christians all around the world with our message: Papua New Guineans need God’s Word in their mother tongues.
I’m sure I’ll talk more about our plans as they develop. It’s going to be an exciting year!
I’ve been drafting charts, plans, descriptions, and proposals all week. Tomorrow, production of Phase 1 begins — or maybe even tonight if I feel up to it.
