Nest-building Altamira Oriole
2009 December 14
VICKSBURG, MISS. — I’ve been going through 2009 photos and realized that I haven’t posted many photos from the trip Charley Burwick, Lisa Berger, and I did through the Rio Grande Valley in April. If it’s OK with you, I’ll post some of those shots over the next few days.
Let’s start with this Altamira Oriole (Icterus gularis) that was building its nest near the SalineƱo boat ramp on the banks of the Rio Grande.

I love how you caught the Oriole actually working on the nest!
Gorgeous! Basket nests are so intriguing, and it must have been a real treat to see one being built–especially by such a handsome bird.
Amazing shots David! I would love to catch an Oriole building one of their basket nests and I love that in-flight shot!
