Personal news: Moving and changing jobs

DUNCANVILLE, TEXAS — Hello, faithful reader. I am back in Texas, where Great-tailed Grackles are begging food from their parents, Mississippi Kites are snatching insects from the sky, and scorpions are skittering across the ground (yes, really).

This, however, is my last week as a Texas resident for the foreseeable future.

I have accepted a position with Audubon and will be moving to Vicksburg, Mississippi, in just a few days.

I still have stories to tell from my time in Africa, and of course I want to tell you more about this exciting new phase of my life, but most of that will have to wait until I get settled in Mississippi.

I should be packing, but instead I’m goofing off in clothes I brought back from Ethiopia! And blogging! OK, back to packing….

If you have questions about this transition, leave them in the comments, and I’ll address them in a future post.

In other news, the slightly belated fourth anniversary edition of I and the Bird is up at 10,000 Birds: I and the Bird #106: Four Years Young! Corey guides us on a look back at bird blogging and general world events over the last four years.

Hmm, good point. Well, I’ll only be six hours east of DFW, so it might be still possible. :)

    Hey, great news! Congrats!

Looking forward to hearing about what you find in Mississippi. If I remember, that’s not too far from where that Jabiru was a couple years ago…

Thanks, Nate. A Jabiru would be cool, but my plan is to become wildly famous by discovering and taking the first conclusive photograph of an Ivory-billed Woodpecker! :D

Glad you’re back and getting help from family and Charley for the move. We can’t wait to hear about the new digs and job. I know we’ll be first ones you’ll call as you photograph that IBWO ;)

Congratulations! Good luck with the move and the job. I hope you find your new home and new employment both challenging and satisfying. I can’t wait to see what this new phase offers. Although I admit I’ll miss your fellow-North-Texan insights and experiences… Don’t hesitate to give a shout if/when you get back to these parts; I’d love to do some birding with you on your return visits.
