Snow day!

DUNCANVILLE, TEXAS — The fun never ends here in north-central Texas. We went to bed believing the frozen precipitation would fall farther south but woke up to a surprise this morning.

When I stepped out the back door to take a couple of pictures, I picked up the 16th species for my apartment list: a flock of Cedar Waxwings across the street.

What at first appeared to be snow is in fact an accumulation of sleet. The ground is so cold that it has stuck to the roads and highways. The Metroplex is not entirely shut down of course, but most schools and some businesses are closed. Temperatures aren’t supposed to make it above the freezing mark all day.
