Birds of Christmas: The Tree
GREENE CO., MO. — Christmas Bird Counts, it turns out, are not the only place birds have in this holiday season. This post commences a series in which I will explore some of the ways that birds help us celebrate Christmas.
A tree is a logical place to look for birds, and the Christmas tree does not disappoint. Blown-glass bird ornaments originated in 19th century Germany. This bird is one of my favorites.
Most bird ornaments seem more fanciful than realistic. Some are gaudier than others. Er, no offense, ma’am. You look lovely.
