Little trail of crumbs

DALLAS, TEXAS — A Carolina Wren sang outside my window, just a short while ago. He repeated each song a few times before moving on to the next.

Meanwhile, the neighbor’s backyard stroll provoked explosive scolds from a mockingbird.

My birding moments have been far too brief of late, like crumbs to the hungry: they sure taste good, but there might be trouble if something more substantial doesn’t come along soon.

Yesterday, two crows perched atop the neighbor’s chimney, and I heard a Killdeer’s cries.

Oh, and let me offer a much-belated encouragement to visit I and the Bird 8, hosted by TroutGrrrl.

Movement catches my eye. I see a pair of Mourning Doves, preening in bare branches against the pale blue sky.
